Another Contemporary Academic Paradox

Yeah… I haven’t been posting in a while. Here are some reasons (and excuses if I’m honest). I started this blog, to not only write about my haggard thoughts as a PhD student, join the online community of speculative realism, but to also find some sort of readership and online presence too (everyone does, surely); the latter of which would, I hope land me academic opportunities in the form of invited papers, job prospects, journal articles, book chapters, talks, lectures, etc… the general fodder PhD students chase after.

Well that appears to have happened; at present I have 3 book chapters waiting publication, one lecture session upcoming, a couple of articles, two more papers by the end of this year and I’m busy preparing two out of three book proposals, one self authored, the other co-authored.

Which means along with working full-time, I’ve had zero time to tend to my Blog garden. At least you know why now. And this is the paradox in a nutshell – the whole point of the blog is produce whimsical thoughts for networked discussion and gain recognition for something, and yet the resulting success of this means ultimately severing off the communicative means of how you got there. And this isn’t just me, most of the blog community (apart from the big OOO four) seem to, in one way or another, have quietened down somewhat.

But don’t worry this blog isn’t a means to end, nor a vanishing mediator. I will try to be good :-) and post more. I guess its more about routine than anything else.

  1. Yea, have enjoyed your blog along the way… good luck in all your endeavors. I can sympathize, I took off for a year due to life situations and work. Recently came back and have found the realm to be a little quieter.
